Lacrosse is the first known sport in North America, and while it is currently the fastest growing sport in Michigan, it has only just begun in the Downriver area. That is terrific because lacrosse is one of the most exhilarating games played on turf.
USA Hockey recommends that players diversify their sports involvement and recognizes lacrosse as one of the best complimentary sports to hockey. That is why the Trenton Hockey Association took on the initiative to launch the Trenton Lacrosse Association. The goal of the TLA was to introduce the wonderfully fast-paced game of lacrosse to area youth and to support its growth and maturation throughout the Downriver community.
The first couple of seasons were challenging, as you might imagine, but the kids did extremely well and were competitive. We are ready to take the program to the next level and that is why we have recently upgraded the name of our organization from Trenton Lacrosse Association to Downriver Lacrosse Association. With that, we have broadened our reach so that we can attract more players and coaches from the 600 square mile Downriver community and grow the sport in the area with greater success.
Looking further, we are working with area communities and schools to adopt lacrosse as club and varsity sports. We look forward to the sport of lacrosse becoming a broad and thriving sport in the Downriver community.
